SEASON TWO: EPISODE fifteen

I’ve spent a lot of my adult life learning who I am—and unlearning who I thought I needed to be. But when I look back, some of the most important lessons haven’t come from books, jobs, or even therapy. They’ve come from long dinners with women who’ve sat across the table from me and said, “Yeah, me too.”
My friendships with women have changed as I’ve grown older. In my twenties, it was about proximity and shared experience—who I worked with, who lived nearby. But now? It’s about depth. Energy. Intention. I’ve realized that having a small circle doesn’t mean having less. It often means having more of what really matters.
In this episode, returning guest, Veronica Roberts and I talk about how relationships—especially romantic ones—can sometimes shift our focus away from our female friendships. It’s not uncommon for women to give too much of themselves in pursuit of validation, especially from men. And in doing so, losing touch with the women who remind them of their backbone, humor, and even their worth. That’s a painful truth, but also a powerful one.
Veronica and I also talk a lot about being neurodivergent—and how ADHD and attention spans shows up in how we engage with others. Some friendships get us, naturally. Some don’t. But the ones that do? They hold space for our tangents, our intensity, our need to go deep or bounce around the surface. There’s no judgment. Just presence.
We’ve come to understand that not every relationship lasts forever—and that’s okay. Some serve a season. Others, a reason. But the ones that last? The ones where you can go from laughing hysterically to crying mid-sentence without missing a beat? Those are sacred.
So if you’ve ever felt like you’re “too much,” or that your way of connecting is different—welcome. You’re not alone. There’s space for all of us at this table. And if you’re lucky, maybe a glass of wine and a four-hour dinner, too.
